Convene & Connect

Build the relationships, opportunities and market insights that move business forward.

Some of the hardest sustainability challenges cannot be solved from inside one company or one function. Progress depends on the relationships, perspectives and influence a cohort of like-minded, committed business leaders can bring to the table.

Convene & Connect gives members three ways to build relationships, gain market insights and shape the future of sustainable business value.

A dedicated WBCSD Community Manager helps each member navigate these opportunities and focus engagement where it can deliver the most value.

Communities

Find your strategic home base. Build trusted relationships with peers facing similar system challenges, share priorities and help inform the work through action and Community leadership.

Communities

Find your strategic home base and peer group within WBCSD.

Communities give every member a home base for building relationships, focusing their engagement and staying close to the work. They bring together executives facing similar systems-level sustainability opportunities and challenges to share insights, discuss sector or value chain-specific needs, and experience what’s underway across WBCSD. Communities also create a two-way exchange with Action Themes: members share perspectives and priorities, while Action Theme teams draw on Communities to shape and test deliverables, contribute case studies, or identify sector opportunities, partnerships, funding sources and likeminded peers. Members select the Community that best fits their business and may join more than one.

Each Community is led by two member co-chairs who work with the Community Manager and relevant experts to curate the agenda. Within each Community, Council Members connect at least once a year at the Annual Meeting. Liaison Delegates and other senior executives connect at least quarterly via curated calls and may help prioritize needs or provide Action Theme input as needed. Communities can also form sub-groups around shared interests and invite guests such as partners or trade associations, may represent WBCSD’s co-leadership of external initiatives, and can recommend key events for sector or regional engagement.

Communities are not project teams or delivery workstreams. They are the connective layer that helps members focus their engagement, identify priorities, strengthen collaboration and stay connected to Action Themes, Solution Accelerators, Policy trends, Events and Regional Touchpoints.

Learn more

Who should be involved

The primary participants are the company’s Council Member and Liaison Delegate, Chief Sustainability Officer or another senior sustainability executive able to represent the organization’s strategic priorities and build relationships with peers. Other functional or business executives can participate when an emerging issue calls for deeper expertise.

What members gain

A trusted peer network; clearer visibility into WBCSD’s work; a two-way channel for member priorities and market insight to inform future activity; a clear place to belong and, for those who want it, a defined path to lead as a Community co-chair, a Community representative on an Action Theme Advisory Group, or as a Champion.
